Billy Bauer is the founder and CEO of Smithereen.
History[]
After founding Smithereen, he gave in to people in the company that wanted him to implement more and more functionality that made people addicted to the social network, similar to what can also be seen in the real world. By doing so, he realized, his opinion lost importance in the organization, and he soon felt like a mere mascot, thus, breaking free by going on solitary retreats from time to time. At least, that's what he tells Chris Gillhaney.

He's on such a retreat when his COO, Penelope Wu, reaches out to him with a phone call from a kidnapper, who wants to talk to him. Against her advice, he takes that call and talks to Chris, who blames himself for a car accident in which his fiancée died because he got distracted by a notification from Smithereen.
