A Recall Unit is a type of device that allows the user to view and make recordings of memories of other people. It appears in the episode Crocodile.

History[]

Crocodile[]

A TR-31A Recall Unit is utilised by Realm Insurance employee Shazia Akhand as part of her daily role investigating insurance claims. It is mentioned that there is a law in the United Kingdom that requires people to co-operate with insurance investigators who use the units, and that it is a criminal offence to refuse being analysed.

When Gordy is hit and injured by a driverless Fences Pizza delivery van in the town of Canbrook, Shazia uses the recall unit to view his memories and those of several other potential witnesses to the accident (Noni Harper-Brown, Dr. William Grange and ultimately architect Mia Nolan).

After Nolan murders Shazia, as well as her husband Anan Akhand and their son Ali Akhand, a recall unit is used by police officers led by Detective Constable Lydon to check the recent memories of the family's pet Guinea Pig. It transpires the pet observed Nolan killing its owners, thus leading the police to identify and ultimately capture her.

Features[]

Recall Units consist of the primary device which contains a witness screen, enabling the user to view memories of the subject, wireless headphones to allow the operator to hear audio, and a non invasive chip that affixes to the subject's temple. Units also come in a portable carry case, allowing them to be used remotely.

The units are primarily used by investigators working for insurance companies, but are also shown to be utilised by the police. They are capable of reading the memories of both humans and mammals such as Guinea Pigs.

Notes and Trivia[]

  • The non-invasive chip used to analyse subjects memories is similar to VR chips seen in the episodes USS Callister, San Junipero and Striking Vipers, although it is square as opposed to circular in shape.
  • It is implied that TCKR Systems, first seen in San Junipero, manufacture the unit used by Shazia in the episode (due to the product name starting with TR).
